The Deputy General Secretary of the Congress of South African Trade Unions, Cde Solly Phetoe, will visit farm workers around the R48 Farm in Skerpoort, around Brits tomorrow. This comes after many workers were reportedly denied their right to vote by the farmer owner. The visit will be done jointly with the Department of Labour and the South African Police Service.

On election day, COSATU visited various workplaces to intervene after employees were nearly denied their right to vote by their employers. The federation also found out during the campaign and on election day that many farm workers were not registered with the IEC. We shall be intensifying our farm visits and calling on relevant authorities, including the police to intervene, where workers rights are violated.

The visit will take place tomorrow, Friday, 5th August 2016 at 10h00 and the members of the media are invited to come and cover the visits.
