Corruption Watch board member Mavuso Msimang has been appointed chairperson with immediate effect after Archbishop Njongonkulu Ndungane stepped down.

Ndungane, who served the board as chairperson for the past three years, would remain on the board, the organisation said in a statement on Friday.

Msimang is currently the CEO of the Oliver and Adelaide Tambo Foundation.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Archbishop for his inspiring leadership and integrity and for his singular contribution to the work of Corruption Watch over these past years.

“We are also delighted that someone of the calibre of Mavuso will assume this position, particularly at this extremely critical time in South Africa as our work becomes ever more urgent,” said executive director David Lewis.
