City of Cape Town: The City advises of electricity disruption in parts of Mfuleni

The electricity supply to Mfuleni will be interrupted as a result of emergency load rotations during peak times over the next two days.

The City of Cape Town would like to advise residents that less than 50% of the normal electricity supply is currently available to Mfuleni due to the Greysands Substation being vandalised during the evening of 13 June 2018 which caused the supply from this substation to trip at 01:08, 14 June 2018.

Therefore to allow for the repair of the Greysands substation,  electricity load rotation will be necessary during peak times from 16:00 till 21:00 today, 14 June 2018 and it is expected that it will be necessary over the same period tomorrow and possibly Saturday as well. Residents can expect supply disruptions during these times.

The current cold front may have a further impact on this peak time period, therefore, we request that customers limit their usage and switch off electrical heating devices as far as possible during the stated peak hours.

Mfuleni has two medium voltage electricity intake points from Eskom, namely the Silversands and Greysands substations.

We apologise for this inconvenience and urge residents to report outages outside the peak time of 16:00 – 21:00 to the Fault Reporting Centre at 0860 103 089 or via email to  FaultReporting.Centre@capetown.gov.za or to SMS 31220.

Further information will be communicated to you as soon as it becomes available.
