CDH expands its Corporate & Commercial practice with appointments of John Gillmer and Werner de Waal as Directors

Leading business law firm Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr has appointed John Gillmer and Werner de Waal as Directors in its Corporate and Commercial practice in Cape Town.

The Corporate and Commercial practice recently clinched top honours for M&A deal flow for the eighth consecutive year at the annual DealMakers Awards and is gearing up to take the lead on some of the largest and most complex mergers and acquisitions in 2017.

“We are excited to welcome two Directors of the calibre of John and Werner to our team. They enhance our specialist private equity offering, our strong energy practice and our Africa capability. Increasing legal complexity requires deep deal experience to help clients implement transactions,” says David Thompson, Director and Regional Practice Head for Corporate and Commercial at CDH, Cape Town.

John specialises in the formation of investment funds and structuring of financial products. He is a private equity specialist and has advised and acted for local and international financial institutions, including banks, private equity and hedge fund managers, long term insurers and investors seeking to invest in various investment funds.

Werner has experience in M&A transactions and general corporate and commercial law, joint venture and partnership agreements.  He advises various developers and sponsors on wind, solar, biomass and biogas energy projects and in the infrastructure space.
