CDE responds to Green Paper on International Migration

The Centre for Development and Enterprise (CDE) has submitted a comprehensive response to Government’s Green Paper on International Migration. In it we support the proposed substantial reform of current policy but stress the need for strong political leadership to drive these changes. Central to CDE’s submission is the call for skilled immigration to be placed at the core of the new migration management regime. Foreign skills can make a substantial contribution to getting economic growth going again; and the confusions, timidity and ambiguities inherent in the draft green paper must be resolved.

CDE’s response to the Green Paper and the executive summary are attached and a press release highlighting CDE’s key points is available here. Business Day published an op ed on October 20th by Ann Bernstein and Sandy Johnston on the topic, which is available here.
