Basic Education hands over state-of-the-art schools in Eastern Cape

The Department of Basic Education will on Thursday 27 and Friday 28 October 2016 through the Accelerated Schools Infrastructure Development Initiative (ASIDI), hand-over the R49 Million Mxhume Secondary School in Ndindindi Village outside Lusikisiki and the R22 Million Luxeni Secondary School in Manditshe Village outside Mthatha in the Eastern Cape.

The hand-overs will bring the number of state-of-the-art schools build as part of ASIDI since inception of the programme in 2011 to 177, with 133 of the schools built in the Eastern Cape. The initiative has provided water to 617 schools, sanitation to 425 schools and electricity to 307 schools that previously had no access to these basic amenities.
