Balindlela to assess water crisis in Madibeng, NW

1st July 2015

Tomorrow, 2 July 2015, DA Shadow Minister of Water and Sanitation, Nosimo Balindlela MP, DA Shadow Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation and Constituency Head, Leon Basson MP and several DA North West Local Councillors, will conduct an oversight visit to the water-less communities of Jericho, Letlhabile, Mothotlung and Sunway Village.

On Monday, about 300 residents of Letlhabile, Oukasie, Mothotlung, Kgabalatsane and Damonsville marched to the Madibeng Municipal Council offices to deliver their grievances and demands for uninterrupted water services.

Mayor, Jostine Mothibe, and North West Cooperative Governance MEC, Collen Maine, failed to attend a community meeting yesterday to assist the community in resolving the matter. Both the Mayor and MEC must be held accountable for the sporadic shortages of clean drinking water in Madibeng.

It is each and every South Africans basic human right to access clean drinking water; we cannot allow our people to live undignified lives due to the failure of government to deliver the most basic of services. Residents have been left with no temporary measures to obtain clean drinking water and the DA will be donating bottles of drinking water to the affected communities.

The oversight visit will take place as follows:
