Appointment of new incumbent of the Anton Mostert Chair of Intellectual Property law

Prof Owen Dean retired as the incumbent of the Anton Mostert Chair of Intellectual Property Law (the “Chair”) at the University of Stellenbosch at the end of 2015. We are grateful for his immense contribution towards the establishment and development of the Chair. We wish Prof Dean all the very best in his retirement. Although Prof Dean has retired, he will continue to have a relationship with the Chair and the Faculty of Law.

Prof Dean’s successor is Prof Sadulla Karjiker. Prof Karjiker has been a lecturer in the Faculty of Law since 2008. He is an admitted attorney in South Africa and a solicitor in England and Wales, and has practised in corporate and commercial law in both jurisdictions.

He also worked for a UK legal publisher on its technology-related projects. Prof Karjiker’s current research interests are Copyright Law and Trademark Law. Prof Karjiker will be available to advise, assist and attend to any matters relating to his fields of expertise.

We welcome Prof Karjiker to the Chair and wish him the best. For more information please visit the Chair’s website at www.sun.ac.za/iplaw.
