ANCYL: Statement by African National Congress Youth League, notes statement on TUT transformation (15/04/2014)

The ANC Youth League notes the positive developments that are happening towards total transformation of Tshwane University of Technology. We appreciate the steady progress that is being registered from the University Council disbandment of 2011 to the current proper reconstitution and election of The Council Chairperson that took place on Friday, 11 April 2014.

We congratulate Dr. Bandile Masuku on his election as the University Council Chairperson. To us it indicates the importance of the ANC grooming of its young people within theCongress Movement structures and the value the ANC has on higher education, in particular. For the University Council to elect Dr. Bandile Masuku as its Chairperson its bolsters our belief that the ANC Youth League is indeed a preparatory school for future leaders of South Africa, be it in academia, politics, religion or business.

As the ANC Youth League, we are confident that the University Council will be able to address the governance problems and administrative challenges that have been troubling students and labour in that institution. The ANC Youth League is also happy that the newChairperson of the University Council is a person with vast knowledge of the Higher Education Sector and he has been an Academic himself and a national President of a student organisation, SASCO.

We, as the ANC Youth League, value education and we believe that if we are to realize the economic freedom in our life-time, we should have higher investment on education and in sharpening of skills. We believe this is achievable only under the leadership of the ANC. Hence, our call to young people to vote ANC on Wednesday, 07 May 2014.
