At their meeting of the 23rd May 2017 the Veterans and Stalwarts of African National Congress (ANC) expressed a serious concern that the matters raised with the leadership of the ANC have not been taken seriously nor referred to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ANC as promised.

At the last meeting of the Officials of the ANC and our Delegation where you were present you undertook, on behalf of the leadership of the ANC, to raise the matter of the delinking of the National Consultative Conference (NCC) from the Policy Conference with the NEC based on the reasons we elaborated at that meeting.

Just as a reminder you will recall Comrade President that at the November 2016 meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) we engaged with the NWC about the concerns we had about the trajectory the ANC was following which was leading it into its demise. This led to the NEC accepting our request to have the NCC as reflected in the November 2016 statement of the NEC. This position was reaffirmed through the January 8 Statement of the ANC which appreciated the wealth of experience among the Veterans and Stalwarts and the important role they can play to assist the ANC to remain faithful to its values and traditions.

Since then we have had four of meetings and no progress was made. Instead the delegation of the Veterans and Stalwarts together with the representative of the MK Council were subjected to insults and abuse which are the antithesis of what the ANC we know is all about. Of particular concern was the fact that one of the Officials was tasked to ‘profile’ all the Veterans and Stalwarts who are part of the ‘101 plus’. This is taken seriously in the light of the political killings mainly in the KZN Province, and the threats to Comrade Makhosi Khoza and other ANC members.

We would like to plead with you Comrade President to keep your word and raise our concerns with the NEC this weekend to rescind its decision that the NCC should be held back-to-back with the Policy Conference

We believe this briefing has not taken place and the NEC of this weekend is the last opportunity for you to undertake this commitment.
Comradely

Comrade Wally Mongane Serote
On behalf of Stalwarts and Veterans.
