The African National Congress wishes the Muslim community in South Africa
and the world Eid-ul-Fitr Mubaarak as Ramadaan draws to a close.

As part of reflection and worship in reminiscence of the severe suffering
of others and being charitable through fasting and prayer, our Muslim
compatriots have deprived themselves of food and drink from before
sunrise until sunset for the past month. Eid thus marks the end of a
month of discipline, commitment and showing devotion to teach empathy
with the poor.

With the celebration of the end of Ramadaan, the African National
Congress is confident that the lessons in human compassion, solidarity
and service, which are an integral part of the Muslim faith, transcend
religious barriers; they are instead lessons from which all of humanity
can draw.
