The African National Congress wishes it's leader, stalwart and
lsithwalandwe, Ahmed Kathrada a happy birthday. As he celebrates his 85th
birthday we join in celebrating a selfless life that has been well lived
in the service of our people and the country under the banner of the ANC.
We join in celebrating a life that was defined by revolutionary
conscience, determination to champion against an evil system and restore
the dignity of all South Africans.

Comrade Kathrada who became active in progressive politics in his early
teens which led to his role in founding Umkhonto Wesizwe alongside
President Mandela, has known no other life than the pre-occupation with
the struggle for liberation which led to his harassment and imprisonment.
In the greater years of his life he has been the bearer of hope,
inspiration and steadfastness in ensuring that South Africa becomes a
better place.

This stalwart has continued to be the flagship of what is just and in the
interest of our people. His activism has not escaped the international
recognition particularly in highlighting the injustices faced by the
people of Palestine. Kathrada remains a living inspiration to the ANC,
it's leadership and people of our country. To him we say Khula ukhokhobe!
