ANC: Statement by Jackson Mthembu, ANC National Spokesperson, welcomes the Tlokwe Councillors rectification of the removal of ANC Mayor (26/02/2013)

26th February 2013

The African National Congress (ANC) welcomes the Tlokwe Municipal Councillors for the rectification of a mistake which led to the removal of an ANC Mayor and replaced by a minority councillor, following the Council meeting, held today, 26th February 2013.

The ANC is satisfied that the ANC Caucus did the right thing by restoring its Mayor. We hope that a similar occurrence would not happen again anywhere within the country because we cannot govern on the basis of trial and error.

The ANC is committed to investigate any allegation raised by anyone regarding the Tlokwe situation. This will include circumstances that led to the removal of the ANC Mayor despite the fact that the ANC is the majority party in the Tlokwe municipality.

The ANC National Working Committee owes the people of Tlokwe an explanation on the situation. In this regard we will be conducting report back sessions to explain to the community of Tlokwe what had happened.
