This policy brief interrogates the South African 2014 national and provincial elections results, focusing on the implications of the results for the three largest political parties: the African National Congress (ANC), the Democratic Alliance (DA) and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). There is specific focus on the national outcome, the outcome of the Gauteng provincial contest, and a speculative look forward to the 2016 local government election races for the City of Johannesburg, Tshwane and the Nelson Mandela Bay metropolitan municipalities.
