Agricultural Research Symposium to tackle contemporary agriculture matters; drought, trade, crop insurance, food prices and concomitant issues

0n 17 March 2017, the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Mr.Senzeni Zokwana is expected to give a keynote address at the Agricultural Research Symposium. This symposium is a joint initiative of the Agricultural Research Council (ARC), Land Bank and the National Agricultural Marketing Council (NAMC).

The objective of the symposium is to engage stakeholders on the latest research and industry trends, and jointly discuss the implications of developments affecting the sector such as AGOA, drought, food prices, animal and crop diseases, financial access.

The purpose of the Agricultural Research Symposium is to direct the framing of a new agriculture research agenda in pursuance of better advice to government, business and civil society, and to create a platform for engagement and debate among the three SOE’s stakeholders. In this way, projects and programmes cutting across the three SOE’s will unlock the sector’s economic potential.

The Agricultural Research Symposium will include speakers from various government, business and industry bodies including Dr Mono Mashaba (Fruit SA) Reinhard Kuschke (Agri-Seker), Prof Sue Walker (ARC) to name but a few. Panel discussions will be facilitated by distinguished industry experts Thabi Nkosi (PIC), Dr Jasper Rees (ARC) and Andries Mahlase (MRoa).

The Minister and the CEO’s of the SOE’s, including some of the panellists will be available for interviews. The event will take place on Friday, 17th March 2017, 08h00 -15h30, at the Centurion Lake Hotel.
