AfriForum video campaign or the promotion of mother tongue education

27th August 2014

The long-awaited video campaign of AfriForum for the promotion of mother tongue education will be launched in Pretoria amidst great excitement on Thursday, 28 August 2014.

This campaign is aimed at encouraging prospective students to study in their mother tongue, and specifically focuses on Afrikaans, as the existence of Afrikaans as highly functional language is of cardinal importance to AfriForum. The civil rights organisation however emphasizes that all learners and students should have the privilege to study in their mother tongue.

“We want to convey a strong visual message with this campaign. In the video, filmed and edited by Elrich Yssel, successful South Africans, who are experts in various career fields and who are advocates for Afrikaans education, encourage young people to study in their mother tongue. We are going to ensure that this message reaches young people across the country through social media, including Facebook and YouTube as well as the AfriForum website. We call on school children and students to share the video with friends everywhere on social media, even via e-mail. The message should spread like wildfire,” Carien Bloem, Head of Education Campaigns at AfriForum said.
The media is hereby invited to attend the launch.
