AfriForum: EFF throws Afrikaans students with glass bottles at UP

The EFF threw glass bottles, swore and spewed at Afrikaans students at the University of Pretoria’s (UP’s) main campus yesterday, and argued that Afrikaans people are not welcome in South Africa.

AfriForum Youth tried to calm the situation and keep it under control with the help of a group of students, but despite these attempts to defuse it, the EFF became violent.

“We had no other choice but to defend ourselves. The EFF was out to create racial conflict and to polarise students. UP’s security wasn’t up to the challenge and students had to defend themselves,” said Morné Mostert, AfriForum Youth’s Spokesperson.

Mostert is of the opinion that the police should now become involved and that the EFF should stop their violent and racist actions immediately to prevent that what happened yesterday does not turn into a national tendency.

AfriForum Youth will organise, mobilise, support and help defend students where necessary.
