The AfriForum branch in Secunda confirmed its cooperation with the South African Police Service (SAPS) by presenting a copy of the cooperation agreement that was signed on 16 January 2017 between AfriForum and the SAPS in Centurion, to Col Willie Nel, Commander of the local police station, on 7 February 2017.

“We are extremely excited about this agreement, which has the purpose of following an integrated approach to improve safety and encourage community cooperation in the combating of crime,” says Hillel Coetzer, AfriForum’s Regional Coordinator for Mpumalanga West.

“This agreement strengthens our ability to bring about a difference in our community. We must create structures within our communities in order to safeguard our residents. However, we would like to encourage local residents to become involved in our initiatives, thereby allowing the structures we establish to be strengthened in the battle against crime,” says Hennie Pretorius, Chairperson of the AfriForum branch in Secunda.

Coetzer added that AfriForum is planning on elevating its involvement soon by means of cooperation with local CPF structures.
