ActionSA will picket at NPA HQ over Lily Mine prosecutions

Herman Mashaba’s ActionSA will lead a picket outside the National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA’s) headquarters, in Pretoria, on Monday, with the families of the 2016 Lily Mine victims, seeking a response to the delay in prosecutions in the matter.

In October last year, the Mbombela Magistrate’s Court said the NPA should consider the criminal prosecution of individuals and the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, after a sinkhole at the Lily Mine took the lives of Pretty Nkambule, Solomon Nyirenda and Yvonne Mnisi.

ActionSA said on Friday, despite assurances that there would possibly be prosecutions by January of this year, no decisions have been made.

“As a political party which values social justice, ActionSA does not want to live in a society where tragedies such as Lily Mine occur and we fail to support the victims and the families because of the many crises facing South Africa due to the ruling party’s failures,” the party said.
