ActionSA to Meet with Rand Water Regarding Persistent Water Shortages

ActionSA Gauteng Provincial Chairperson, Funzi Ngobeni, will today, 24 October 2024, meet with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Rand Water, Sipho Mosai, to discuss the current water crisis that has left many homes without access to water for extended periods of time in order to help find workable solutions for our Gauteng residents.

We will give Mr. Mosai the information we gathered during the oversight visits we conducted earlier this month to water-stricken communities across the province. The discussion of the recently introduced water shedding is also on the agenda.

The engagement will also consist of a tour of Rand Water’s reservoir, which will offer us more insight into the challenges it is facing, including finding practical solutions.

It is imperative that actions are taken to ensure that people’s rights to a dignified standard of living are not trampled upon and their access to clean water is no longer being violated.

This is the consequence of the politicisation of state institutions, which has caused infrastructure backlogs as the government fails to accept responsibility and instead places the blame for years of poor planning and low capital infrastructure on one another.

It is beyond appalling that residents only receive one filthy water tanker or none at all, and the absence of water has been used for financial gain.

ActionSA remains committed to tending to the challenges South Africans continue to face, inculcating good governance, and providing service delivery, free of corruption.

Ngobeni will be joined by a delegation of ActionSA members. This includes: ActionSA Johannesburg Regional Chairperson, Emma More, and ActionSA Johannesburg Deputy Chief Whip, Lebo Modukanene.
