ActionSA Joburg Caucus Leader Writes to the City of Johannesburg Executive Mayor Regarding Metro Centre Closure

Johannesburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda

ActionSA has today written to the City of Johannesburg Executive Mayor, Cllr Kabelo Gwamanda, seeking to compel him to inform the public about the status of the Metro Centre.

Two weeks ago, more than 3 000 City Employees were requested to work from home owing to the electrical transformer’s maintenance. After 15 days, the City of Johannesburg employees and its residents have not received any tangible explanation about the actual status of this maintenance.

What we understand is that those who are working from home have no access to their work emails making it more difficult for them to execute their tasks. Load shedding is another factor that’s having a negative impact on those who are working from home. The most important program in the City Calendar (Council) had to be cancelled after the City failed to secure a venue. This is a great concern.

One has to point out the failures that has engulfed the City of Johannesburg since the ANC-EFF cabal took over the city. With them at the helm, the city is rudderless.

The Mayor has been mum about the current state of our City. Instead of attending to the pressing matters within the City, Gwamanda prefers to delegate his responsibilities.

We therefore implore him to act swiftly by ensuring that City employees are moved to other buildings to allow the contractors to embark on major structural refurbishments.

We trust that the Mayor will exercise his oversight role to ensure that every cent is accounted for, thus restoring the dignity of our city.

As a party rooted in ethical leadership, we will also play an oversight role in ensuring accountability during the decanting and renovations.

We believe, that the recent development will appeal to the conscious of the Executive to act speedily to avoid what we have witnessed in some of the buildings within the City of Johannesburg.

City of Johannesburg cannot afford to be served by employees that are working from home as result of uncaring administration.
