ActionSA has committed itself to working hand-in-hand with communities and water supply authorities in addressing the on-going water challenges.

This comes after fruitful interactions with Rand Water’s top brass yesterday, 24 October 2023, at which I was present.

We further encourage residents in affected communities to engage ActionSA public representatives who will continue to pursue solutions so that this matter is resolved.

During the interaction we observed that, despite the persisting water crisis, there have been improvements in some of the affected areas.

A tour of the Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant was also conducted, so that we could satisfy ourselves that indeed work was being done to address and keep up with maintenance.

Unfortunately, despite the efforts made by Rand Water, poor political leadership and the absence of the rule of law has made it easier for local municipalities to neglect their financial obligations and more difficult to resolve technical issues in various areas.

The current state of our economic infrastructure has made it near impossible for the economy to function to its full potential.

To achieve economic prosperity, it is imperative that key infrastructure projects are invested in to build the necessary foundation for longevity and success.

ActionSA believes in the adoption of a pay-for-success funding model combined with loan mechanisms for social and infrastructure projects, among others. This would address the financial shortfalls of government funds available for infrastructure development.

ActionSA will keep up the good fight and hold the government responsible for its shortcomings in dealing with the many concerns. Enough is enough. This battle requires the assistance of a nation.
