38 Social and Affordable housing projects currently underway in the WC

In a written reply to a DA parliamentary question, it was revealed by the Western Cape Department of Infrastructure that 38 Social and Affordable housing projects are currently underway in the province.

This includes:

These projects will be carried out throughout the upcoming three financial years up until 2025/26.

MPP Matlhodi Maseko said: “By addressing the housing needs of our vulnerable citizens, the DA-run Western Cape is actively working to uplift their lives and break the cycle of poverty. Delivering housing to our most in-need communities holds profound importance in the DA’s quest for a just and equitable society providing not only shelter but also a sense of security, dignity, and hope for a better future.

However, it is unfortunate that we note the massive challenges faced by the affordable housing market. The alarming rise in interest rates and the relentless grip of inflation, a direct consequence of the ANC's regressive national policies and terrible mismanagement, has cast a shadow on the progress we seek to achieve. These adverse factors, stemming from misguided decision-making, directly impact the development costs associated with housing projects, creating ever-growing challenges.”
