The Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Development, wishes to announce that President Thabo Mbeki has approved a request from four of the country's High Courts Judges for early retirement in terms of the Judges Remuneration and Conditions of Employment act of 2001. This follows a request by the Judges to Minister Maduna for early retirement.
Mr Justice John Malberger, of the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein, Justice Bobby Pickard of the Bisho High Court, the Hournarible Justice Jimmy Van Rensburg of the Eastern Cape Division of the High Court and Justice Peet Niebaer also from the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein, have all served the Judiciary for almost 20 years and more.
In terms of Section 3 (2)(b) of the Judges Remuneration and Conditions of Employment Act of 2001, a Judge who has already attained the age of 65 years and has performed active service for a period of 15 years and who informs the Minister in writing that he or she no longer wishes to perform active service, shall be discharged by the president from active service as a Judge.
The Ministry wishes the Hounareble Judges a happy retirement and a good health.
