President Jacob Zuma on Thursday revealed the composition of the new team of Ministers and business proponents set to lead the Presidential Black Economic Empowerment Advisory Council.

Trade and Industry Minister Dr Rob Davies, Minister in the Presidency responsible for Women Susan Shabangu, Public Works Minister Thulas Nxesi and Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant, were named among those responsible for progressing the strides made by the outgoing inaugural council in boosting broad-based black economic empowerment (BBBEE).

The Advisory Council provided guidance and overall monitoring of BBBEE performance and was tasked with advising government on BBBEE strategies and codes of good practice.

Advising on the development, amendment or replacement of the BBBEE strategy, advising on draft transformation charters and the facilitation of partnerships between the State and private sector to advance the aims of the BBBEE Act also fell under the auspices of the council.

Congress of South African Trade Unions second deputy president Zingiswa Losi; Association for the Advancement of Black Accountants of South Africa president Tantaswa Fubu; Disabled People South Africa deputy chairperson Puleng Tsebe; Black Business Council VP Sandile Zungu; and Business Unity South Africa board member Clive Manci were appointed as members of the council.

Other members included Stellenbosch Graduate School of Business Doing Business in Africa chairperson Professor Eltie Links; South African Institute of Chartered Accountants professional development and transformation senior executive Chantyl Mulder; Consulting Engineers South Africa CEO Lefadi Makibinyane; Mtiya Dynamics executive chairperson Dr Thami Mazwai; National Youth Development Agency chairperson Yershen Pillay; Central Energy Fund chairperson Sankie Mthembi-Mahanyele; African Farmers Association of South Africa Mike Mlengana; Progressive Professionals Forum deputy secretary-general Zinhle Cele; South African National Apex Cooperative treasurer-general Caroline Magadla and Black Management Forum deputy president Koko Khumalo.

The directors-general of the departments of the Ministers on the council would serve as alternate members.
