Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille emerged from a two hour meeting with President Thabo Mbeki on Monday afternoon, saying he had taken her into his confidence.

Zille met with Mbeki at the Union Buildings to discuss issues ranging from the electricity crisis to the prosecution of National Police Commissioner Jackie Selebi.

She said the President took her into his confidence on the Selebi issue, adding that details would emerge.

Zille said she conveyed the country's scepticism and suspicion on the proposed disbanding of the Directorate of Special Operations or Scorpions as they are known.

"His response was a very strongly stated commitment to the Constitution," Zille said.

She also conveyed to Mbeki the need for people to be held accountable for the current electricity crisis.
