The city’s most inventive residents will showcase their talents at the Cape Town Mini Maker Faire.

Co-sponsored by the Western Cape Department of Agriculture, the event features the work of 60 “makers”. Partners include the City of Cape Town, PPC and Peninsula Beverage Company.

Exhibits will demonstrate home-grown drones, robotics and Arduino projects. Also on show will be 3D printers, rockets, gaming and electric vehicles. Installations such as the “art cars” from the Afrika Burn festival will also be displayed. Also forming part of the exhibition will be PriceWaterhouseCoopers Western Cape, Stellenbosch University’s Launch Lab, the Cape Innovation and Technology Institute and the University of the Western Cape.

MEC Winde said: “It’s fitting that the maker movement has come to our region; the Western Cape is a thriving hub of innovation. The event features interesting new ways in which we are using technology, showcases the creativity of our residents and provides a platform for new products.”

First hosted in Cape Town last year, the Cape Town Mini Maker Faire is based on the model of the original Maker Faire, which launched in San Francisco in 2006. Maker Faires are hosted across the world. Tickets can be purchased via quicket.co.za.
