More than 7 000 Investing in African Mining Indaba delegates are in the Western Cape this week.
Alan Winde, Minister of Economic Opportunities, said the conference kicked off a series of events taking place in the province over the next few weeks.
The Mining Indaba ends tomorrow.

“The Mining Indaba is an important economic catalyst for our province. It has generated over R600 million for the local economy between 2007 and 2015. It has also created 5 000 jobs in the tourism sector over the same period and resulted in 20 000 bed nights at our hotels.”

Minister Winde said it was a busy week for the region, as the city prepared to host the opening of Parliament tomorrow (11 February 2016).
“Events are great for our tourism sector. We also know that conference delegates often return to our region for leisure visits with their families. The tourism sector currently employs 204 000 people and through our Project Khulisa growth strategy, we want to add up to a further 100 000 jobs in this sector. Part of our action plan to reach this goal includes the development of an all-year events calendar.”
