At 6 pm last Saturday evening the IEC declared the 2011 local government elections free and fair. With 100% of the votes tallied, there was a slight delay in making the declaration as the IEC investigated the last set of queries and complaints by parties. In all 63 complaints were received, investigated and resolved to the satisfaction of all parties concerned. The Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference Parliamentary Liaison Office offers this comment.
