The Minister of Sport and Recreation South Africa, Mr. Fikile Mbalula is proud to announce the R100 000 Ministerial Recognition Prize award to be handed out to South African winners of the Comrades Marathon.
In recognising the efforts put by our athletes, the Department of Sport and Recreation SA aims to incentivize and motivate our South African athletes to finish the race in first place.
“Athletes put in hard work preparing for this epic and historical race. Motivating them by rewards when they excel is the least we could do to show our appreciation as a nation. Our athletes continue to hoist our flag high uniting and giving us hope amidst all the challenges we have as a nation. They spent most of their time ensuring that when the whistle is blown our great nation is celebrated as a centre of dedication to excellence." Minister Mbalula said.
The Ministerial Prize incentive will be handed over to a South African man and woman on the eventuality of winning the Comrades Marathon on condition that they come first place to all nationals. Minister Fikile Mbalula wishes all the runners best and may the best runners win.
