Today, 26 February 2015, DA members arrested outside Parliament before the State of the Nation address will again appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court.
Included in the 5 arrested was Marius Redelinghuys MP, DA National Spokesperson, and Shaun August, DA Cape Metro Regional Chair.
Riot police used water-cannons, batons and shields to forcefully arrest DA supporters outside Parliament just hours before SONA, citing “instructions from above” to remove them from Adderley Street “before the President comes”.
The urgent scheduling of today’s court appearance suggests a change in approach to charging those arrested.
