Trade union Solidarity said today that it had recently referred a case on behalf of 97 of its members employed by Sishen Iron Ore Company (Pty) Ltd to the Labour Court.
This came after these members did not receive their full performance evaluation bonuses, to which they had been entitled, for a period of two years. According to Anton van der Bijl, head of the Labour Law Division at Solidarity, the outcome of this case will have far-reaching consequences for the Sishen Group. “In the years 2012 and 2013, 97 of Solidarity’s members did not receive their full bonuses as had previously been agreed upon,” Van der Bijl explained.
“The amount of the claim submitted by Solidarity in this case is probably one of the largest monetary claims ever submitted by Solidarity on behalf of its members,” Van der Bijl said.
