The Powers and Privileges Committee has noted and welcomes the Western Cape High Court judgment against an urgent interdict brought by 20 EFF Members of Parliament intended to halt disciplinary proceedings against them following the incident that happened on 21 August 2014 in the National Assembly.
The disciplinary proceedings, initially scheduled to start on September 30, were postponed to allow the court processes to be finalised.
This judgment enables the Committee to start the inquiry in earnest and unhindered on 7 October 2014.
The committee now expects all parties concerned to allow due process to run its course and to ensure that Parliament performs its functions.
