“Help me identify your brightest and our best.” That was the appeal from Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown as she launched an initiative to obtain the best possible pool of candidates from which to select Board Members for the seven State-Owned Companies in the Public Enterprises portfolio.
Advertisements were published in the business sections of four major national newspapers over the past weekend and on online platforms to attract people with skills to serve on the Boards of Eskom, Transnet, SAA, Denel, SA Express, Alexkor and Safcol. The closing date is 17 October 2014.
“Since assuming office, I have said that I will review the Boards of State-Owned Companies in my portfolio. I have concluded that some Boards need strengthening and these advertisements are part of this review process.
“The Boards and Management of State-Owned Companies must be paragons of strong, visionary and strategic leadership, cutting edge business practices, innovation and exemplary governance.
“It is also important that nominees have substantial knowledge of board governance and some of the recognised company specific aspects or sub-disciplines of the core business of the State- Owned Company they are being nominated for,” she said.
