The civil rights organisation AfriForum has just surpassed the 100 000 member mark.  This morning at 08:00, the organisation had 100 278 active members.

According to Kallie Kriel, CEO of AfriForum, the strong growth in membership means that AfriForum will now be empowered to enter a new phase and to initiate even more campaigns and actions for the creation of a brighter future. “The strength of AfriForum lies in our members and we therefore thank every AfriForum member for his or her support,” Kriel added.

Kriel indicated that campaigns run by AfriForum are exclusively financed by members and that every one of the 100 000 members can thus be proud of their role in the successes AfriForum has already achieved as well as the successes which will be achieved in future.

Kriel has also announced that AfriForum will, on 2 September 2014, at the official opening of the new AfriForum building in Centurion, introduce a Ten Point Plan for the future. The Plan will, according to Kriel, be carried out with the support of members and the organisation’s 132 branches across South Africa. The 100 000th member will also be introduced to the public at the office opening.

As part of the 100 000 membership celebration of AfriForum, all members are requested to take part in a social media action in which members can share why they are proud to be AfriForum members. Stories can be posted on the AfriForum Facebook page or on Twitter with #AfriForum100000.

According to Kriel, the fact that one political party in South Africa dominates election after election means that the strengthening of strong civil institutions has become crucial to ensure that Government is held accountable. “100 000 members give AfriForum the necessary muscle to play this role effectively, and the continuous growth in our membership will ensure even greater muscle power in future,” Kriel said.
