Foreign Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said yesterday that Pretoria remained confident it would be given the nod by the African leaders at the annual African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, next month.
She was addressing the portfolio committee during her department's budget vote in Cape Town.
"We believe that we have what it takes to do this (host)...we await the decision of the AU," affirmed the minister.
South Africa is bidding against Egypt and Libya to host the powerful decision-making body that was launched at the AU headquarters in Ethiopia early this year.
Gertrude Mongella chaired the body as its inaugural President.
Minister Dlamini-Zuma also reiterated government's international policy position that is pillared on multilateralism, peaceful resolution of conflicts and an equal treatment of all world nations.
"We have established ourselves as a force in contributing to the global effort for sustainable peace and people-centred socio-economic development based on a firm belief in multilateralism and rules based international order," she asserted. - BuaNews
