The South African Government expresses its condemnation of the terrorist attacks in Mombassa, Kenya, on Thursday 28 November 2002 which left a number of Kenyan and Israeli nationals dead while wounding scores of others.

The South African Government expresses its confidence that the Kenyan authorities will do everything in their power to ensure the perpetrators of this heinous act are brought to justice.

"Africa and the international community must co-operate fully with the Kenyan authorities to apprehend those responsible. Africa cannot and will not tolerate acts of terrorism in any of our territories," says Deputy Minister Aziz Pahad.

"We reiterate our view that terrorism can never be used to justify the cause of any people including the Palestinian people. On the contrary it fundamentally undermines the cause of the Palestinian people," concluded Deputy Minister Pahad.

The South African Government extends its heartfelt condolences to the governments and peoples of Kenya and Israel as well as members of the bereaved families - Foreign Affairs.
