The Portfolio Committee on Communications will in the following two weeks meet with the board of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) over the Supreme Court of Appeal judgement on its Chief Operations Officer (COO), Mr Hlaudi Motsoeneng.
“The board has a fiduciary responsibility to provide corporate governance to the management of SABC and the corporation at large. It is against this backdrop that the Committee seeks to meet with the board to hear how it is dealing with the court judgement,” said Mr Humphrey Maxegwana, Chairperson of the Committee.
Although the Committee is not privy with how the board has interpreted and dealt with the judgement, it believes that any decision of the board is taken in good faith and in the interest of the public broadcaster.
“It is important that the rule of law be upheld and respected by state-owned enterprises, government departments and agencies,” said Mr Maxegwana.
