The Ad Hoc Committee on the Funding of Political Parties has concluded the two-day public hearings on the Draft Political Party Funding Bill of 2017, and has expressed its gratitude to all organisations and individuals that participated.
“We are grateful for the high levels of interest displayed by civil society organisations, academia, private citizens and the organised business community. Furthermore, we are confident that the final product that the Committee will produce will stand the country and our democracy in good stead for the foreseeable future,” said Mr Vincent Smith, the Chairperson of the Committee.
The Committee is also humbled by the positive comments made by many participants about the quality and speed of the Committee’s work.
Tomorrow, Friday 10 November, the Committee will be briefed by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) on its capacity to administer the Bill/Act when it is enacted into law.
From next week, the Committee will deliberate on the inputs and prepare a final Bill, which will be tabled in the National Assembly before the end of November.
