PPC wishes to confirm that the local management of its Slurry plant and members of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) have reached agreement on wage negotiations. The Union embarked on a protected strike on Monday, October 16, having given notice on Friday last week. The notice to strike was given after the parties had engaged a CCMA commissioner where they were unfortunately not able to reach an agreement.
The parties resumed wage negotiations on Wednesday afternoon (18 October 2017) and today reached agreement.
PPC management wishes to reiterate that the company gives fair and equitable pay and other benefits to all its employees. As a general principle, the company ensures that the salary increases are at least 1% above the prevailing CPI, and takes into consideration the affordability and sustainability of the business.
