The Portfolio Committee on Police will host a Detective Dialogue on 5 September next week.
The Minister of Police, Mr Nathi Mthethwa, has declared this year as the year of the detective. Among topics to be discussed is the “Role of detectives in the fight against crime” which will be presented by Mr Pieter du Rand from the Department of Justice and Advocate Bradley Smith from the National Prosecuting Authority. Institute for Security Studies’ Dr Johan Burger will present a discussion paper called “Detective training and career development”.
The dialogue will see various experts in the area of policing converge on Parliament to look at challenges faced by detectives around the country and come up with ways of finding solutions to detectives’ problems.
