Its hardly a five days after the official release/publication of crime statistics by Department of Police under the poor leadership of Bheki Cele. We have been told by that report that about 57 people are brutally murdered in this country which means that more than one person is killed each hour. Bheki Cele is misleading himself if he still believes that the country is not in the middle of a war. We are at war with ourselves, taking place between "children of the same womb".

The school is a reflection of society and cannot be divorced from the culture of violence that we are faced with daily. Our country have been experiencing brutal acts of violence from 1652 when we engaged in many battles with the dispossessor and oppressor, that is where the country inherited the culture of violence which is tearing the society apart.

We cannot blind ourselves by ignoring consequences of land dispossession, the extermination of the Khoisan community and the brutality of Apartheid regime which committed gross human rights violations without any consequences thereof. The current growing levels of violence cannot be divorced from all what we have been through since the arrival of colonizers led by their Captain Jan Van Riebek.

The TRC (Truth and Reconciliation Commission) never addressed the effects of colonialism (under the guise of apartheid policy) among our people, the TRC was obsessed with clearing oppressor from facing the might of the law. We need to heal our people from their soul to their minds so that they can reduce the heightened levels of violence.

We are not only hurt by the brutal murder of the teacher in Ramotshere Moiloa High School, we are also disgusted and angry. The situation is out of hand where soldiers are working in safer environment than our teachers who are the most important people in our society. The teachers are important in that everyone passes through them before we could all be men and women, they are the pillar of our societies and therefore needs our wholly protection.

The PAC does not highlight colonialism as an excuse to catastrophic environment we find ourselves in, we are simply stating the facts. The killer is the killer and cannot be said to be a minor, every action has got a reaction, mathematicians often use the aphorism "what you do in the left side should be applied on the right side". We are saying that the killer should be subjected to the rule of law regardless of the age, race or any other factor because its clear that he does not want to stay with people in a normal society.

The other factor why people continue to commit crime is that there are hardly no consequences. We steal, kill, rape because we know that the SAPS cannot even file a case to be taken up with courts for prosecution.
