The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA) encourages its supporters and the general public to join peaceful public protests around the country on Friday 7 April, in support of calls for Jacob Zuma to resign or be withdrawn as South Africa’s president.

OUTA is supporting protests in collaboration with other prominent civic organisations.

Marches and protests are being organised by different entities around the country. We encourage the public to establish what’s happening in their towns and cities and to join the protests in solidarity with millions of South Africans who are concerned about the country’s future under Zuma’s leadership, particularly following his irrational and damaging cabinet reshuffle.

“Jacob Zuma must go. It’s as simple as that. He has pushed the envelope too far this time. He is damaging our economy and the longer he stays in power, the more difficult it will be for our economy to recover,” says Wayne Duvenage, chairperson of OUTA.

In Gauteng, people are encouraged to join the Occupy Church Square protest in Pretoria held for 24-hours a day, every day until Friday 7 April and then, on Friday, to gather in Church Square from 10am to march from 1pm to the Union Buildings. Those who are unable to attend the march on Friday are encouraged to take to the streets outside their places of work between 12 and 3pm.

We urge the public to get banners, make placards and, when protesting, to do so peacefully, non-disruptively and responsibly. A description of your rights and responsibilities at protests and a “Protest Toolkit” are available under the “Freedom Friday” banner at www.outa.co.za.

Remember to wear sun protection, hats and comfortable shoes and to take enough water.
