The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa congratulates Comrade Jeremy Corbyn who has been re-elected as the British Labour Party’s leader for the second time in just over a year, with 61.8% of the votes, to defeat Owen Smith who received just 38.2%.
This is a bigger victory than the 59.5% he won last year and gives Corbyn a clear mandate for the Party’s radical left-wing policies and a crushing defeat for the “centrist” MPs, who are in reality right-wing pro-capitalists who want to return to the discredited neoliberal policies of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown which led to Labour’s defeat in 2010.
This result is further evidence of a leftward movement around the world, reflected the support for ‘democratic socialist’ Bernie Sanders in the US Democratic Party Primary elections.
Numsa urges Comrade Corbyn to stand firm on his programme and give British workers a real socialist alternative to the pro-big business austerity policies of the Conservative government.
