There was no word from the Democratic Alliance's (DA's) federal executive on Tuesday on who would replace party leader Helen Zille as Cape Town mayor.
DA councillor Daniel Plato refused to comment on a report that he was set to replace Zille.
"I am not able to comment at the moment," Plato told Sapa.
"Nothing is said and done, the federal council still has to discuss the issue."
SABC radio news earlier reported that Plato was set to take up the post as Zille prepared to become Premier of the Western Cape.
"Any statements will come from the mayor's office," said Plato, a member of the Cape Town mayoral committee for housing, and a councillor for Ward 22 in the areas of Belhar, Elsiesrivier, Parow Industrial and Uitsig.
A statement released by the DA's federal executive which met in Cape Town on Tuesday morning made no mention of Zille's replacement or the appointment of MECs in the province. It focused rather on the DA's performance in the recent elections.
"The Federal Executive looked very closely at where we performed well and where we can correct weaknesses," the statement read.
Mayoral spokesperson Robert MacDonald said Zille would cease to be mayor once the Independent Electoral Commission gazetted the names of the provincial parliament.
Zille's deputy, Grant Haskin, would then take over.
"The deputy mayor will be remain mayor until a council meeting scheduled for later in May," he said.
"It is up to the DA caucus to decide who the mayor will be."
