The National Lotteries Board (NLB) would like to confirm that Ithuba Holdings (Pty) Ltd will take over National Lottery operations from Gidani from the 1st of June 2015, says Charlotte Mampane, the Chief Executive Officer of the NLB.
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Rob Davies announced in November 2014 that Ithuba was chosen as the preferred bidder following an intense, transparent and highly competitive bidding process.
“We believe that Ithuba will continue to add value to the National Lottery operations as many operators have done before them,” says Mampane.
“There were many factors that made the Ithuba bid stand out compared with other competing proposals, however the selection committee was swayed by amongst other issues the technological advancements that they will bring to the lottery operation,” adds Mampane.
“On behalf of the NLB, I would like to welcome the new operator and to assure the public that the transition from the incumbent operator to Ithuba will be seamless, we do not anticipate any operational interruptions,” continued Mampane.
The National Lottery plays a pivotal role in supporting the more than 100 000 registered non-governmental organisations and has in the past 15 years disbursed about R18 billion to charities, sports, arts and culture organisations throughout the country, says Mampane.
She says the Department of Trade and Industry and the NLB are confident that Ithuba will prove to be a worthy and competent operator.
“The NLB will never put the National Lottery, an important source of financial support for so many community upliftment programmes, at risk. We will never entrust the management of the National Lottery to an entity that does not have the essential know-how to keep this critical pillar of society working,” concludes Mampane.
