Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr has announced that Tim Fletcher has been appointed the National Head of the Dispute Resolution: Litigation, Arbitration and Mediation Practice at Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr. Fletcher replaces Pieter Conradie, who headed up the Dispute Resolution Practice for the past three years.

Fletcher began his career at Cliffe Dekker and Todd in 1989 and became a director in 1995. He has extensive experience in commercial dispute resolution in South Africa in various areas including breach of warranty, general contractual issues, education, insurance, administrative law, information technology, product liability and property. He has a reputation in the Dispute Resolution sector for being a difficult but direct opponent.

Conradie, a very experienced lawyer, is relishing the opportunity to once again focus entirely on practice. For many years he has acted for various large corporations representing them with distinction in disputes both in South Africa as well as in the United States of America, Britain and Europe. Conradie practised as an advocate at the Johannesburg Bar until March 1980 when he joined Hofmeyr van der Merwe (now Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr) and with that depth of experience to draw on Conradie was able to lead the merged departments of Cliffe Dekker and Hofmeyr. Under his guidance the Dispute Resolution Practice has grown its client base, substantially improved its gearing, improved its empowerment profile and built a significant reputation.

Fletcher will build from that platform and he takes over a very impressive team of 34 attorneys in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
