Parliament's Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence (JSCI) passed on the recommendation to the National Assembly yesterday. The Inspector-General is expected to investigate complaints about alleged maladministration, abuse of power, transgressions of law and policies, corruption and improper enrichment within the intelligence services.
Chairperson of the JSCI Siyabonya Cwele said 46 applications were received and six applicants had been interviewed.
“The JSCI is proud to recommend Zolile Thando Ngcakane to be considered for the appointment as Inspector-General,” he said.
Cwele described Ngcakane as a world-renowned water civil engineer with vast intelligence experience. “While in exile he furthered his studies in Russia, Kenya and Canada,” Cwele added.
Ngcakane was appointed Head of Ministerial Services in the Intelligence ministry in 1996. Since November 2001 he acted as CED of the National Communication Centre.
The recommendation would be presented to President Thabo Mbeki for endorsement. – BuaNews.
