NEHAWU is not shocked to learn that there was a break-in at the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency, where stockpiles of rhino horns were stolen over the weekend. The union has been advocating for the in-sourcing of outsourced services for a long time including the security.

This incident is proof that the widely held idea of the efficiency of the private sector is just a fairytale used to justify outsourcing and privatization. The company guarding the assets and premises of the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency is currently being paid obscene amounts of money to do its job.

We demand the immediate review and termination of the contract with the security company and also for swift action against the perpetrators by the law enforcement agencies. The union feels vindicated in its campaign against privatization and outsourcing of public services as it erodes the quality of these services. - See more at: http://www.cosatu.org.za/show.php?ID=8674#sthash.5IvUxNGR.dpuf
