Necsa will also share information on its preparations and current activities supporting the nuclear new build programme; ways to support government’s plan for massive industrialisation and localisation will also be discussed. The gathering will reflect on the experiences of black business with previous mega projects in South Africa and devise means to maximise participation.

Earlier this year, Necsa met with the Black Business Council (BCC) and established a desk to interconnect the South African nuclear industry with the South African business organisations. The desk provides a platform to identify training needs to develop technical skills to participate in the nuclear new build programme.  The desk is also expected to immediately create a directory of black companies who can participate in various aspects of the nuclear programme in line with BBC’s objectives of increasing black participation in the mainstream economy.

The engagement planned for 06 May 2016 is a continuation of a process initiated with the BBC; the aim is to develop several other forms of collaborations with the South African business organisations ahead of the start of the nuclear new build programme.
“South African black business entrepreneurs must ensure that they get involved in discussions and debates around the nuclear new build programme and participate in business opportunities which will emanate from the nuclear new build” said Mr Phumzile Tshelane, CEO of Necsa.
